World Wildlife Fund’s Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program (EFN) is currently inviting applications for its Conservation Fellowships for Myanmar with an aim to pursue graduate-level study anywhere in the world with the goal of advancing conservation in Myanmar.

With three of the most pristine large rivers and some of the most extensive intact forest in theMekong region, Myanmar is Asia’s last frontier for conservation. Its natural environmentsremain mostly unspoiled. They support some of the region’s poorest people, and possibly the last population of wildlife elephants in Southeast Asia. WWF’s Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program (EFN) is offering the best and brightest future conservation leaders the opportunity to pursue graduate-level study anywhere in the world with the goal of advancing conservation in Myanmar. EFN supports up to two years of study for a maximum of USD 30,000 per year.

• Applicant must have applied to, be admitted to, or be enrolled in a master’s or PhD program.
• Applicant’s research should be focused on one of the listed priority fields of study.
• Applicant must plan to begin your studies no later than August 2017.
• Applicant must commit to working in Myanmar for at least two years after the completion of their degree.

LEAD Fellow 2016: Supporting Young Social Entrepreneurs across South Africa

The International Youth Foundation (IYF) and Laureate International Universities are currently inviting applicants for its Monash South Africa (MSA) Leading Entrepreneurs for African Development (LEAD) Fellow program 2016, to identify and support young social entrepreneurs across South Africa, while strengthening the regional youth social innovation sector as a whole.

The Challenge

Across South Africa, young leaders are pioneering innovative solutions to urgent social and environmental challenges. These young visionaries represent a powerful force if given the opportunity to develop much-needed skills, access additional resources, and learn from and collaborate with one another to drive meaningful, dynamic, and measurable change.

The Initiative

To address these needs, Monash South Africa (MSA) launched MSA LEAD – Leading Entrepreneurs for African Development – in 2016, a fellowship program for young social entrepreneurs between the ages of 16-29 years old. The program is the result of a global partnership between MSA, the International Youth Foundation (IYF), and Laureate International Universities. Implemented by MSA, the program identifies and supports young social entrepreneurs across South Africa, while strengthening the regional youth social innovation sector as a whole.

Annually, MSA LEAD will recognise 10 youth-led projects that are positively impacting their communities. Each of the winning projects receives $2000 to support their work. Fellows also participate in advanced training during a weeklong workshop covering topics such as leadership development, project management, and communications, as well as ongoing learning and mentoring opportunities throughout the fellowship year.

• Applicant must be the founder or co-founder of a social venture based in South Africa, and must be currently involved in the activities of the venture.
  • A social venture is defined as a project, organization, or business that uses social impact as a defining guidepost.
  • Ventures can be non-profit, for-profit, or combine elements of both.
  • Ventures can be stand-alone organizations or operating within an existing organization.
  • Ventures can be legally registered or unregistered at the time of application.
  • Venture must be able to show at least six months of impact in the community by 30 June 2016.
• Applicant must be available to participate in one-week training in Johannesburg in late November/early December of 2016, and be willing to participate in one year of follow-up activities after the training.
• Applicant must provide 2 references who are not family members or colleagues within their social venture.

Apply for APN South Asia Media Fellowship on Climate Change!

In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, APN, together with the University of Peradeniya, will organise a fully funded two-day South Asia Media Visit in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The media visit is designed to engage media in expanding efforts to raise awareness about, and disseminate information on and lessons learned from, APN funded projects on global change and sustainability issues.

The South Asia Media Visit is open to Journalists/Media workers/Broadcasters working for media based in an APN Member/Approved Country in South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka). A total of seven media representatives will be invited to join the media visit and develop news/feature stories/broadcasts about the projects.

Theme

The theme for the media visit is Home Garden Systems in the face of Climate Change.

Planned Activities

The activities planned for the media visit are:

1. A visit to village sites implementing Home Garden Systems
2. Local governance and media seminar on Home Garden Systems in South Asia: Raising public awareness through media on Home Garden Systems and food security

Eligibility

1. Applicant is a journalist/media worker at a media company based in an APN Member/Approved Country in South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka)
2. Applicant must have a good working knowledge of English.
3. Applicant should have a keen interest in environmental communication/journalism.
4. Experience in environmental reporting is preferable.
5. Young/early-career journalists/media workers under 40 years of age are encouraged to apply.

* Invited participants are required to publish at least one feature story (in print/online/on air) in the company they work for as an outcome of their participation in the Media Visit.

Summer Fellowship Program from TechChange

TechChange is excited to announce a summer fellowship program for recent graduates and rising college juniors and seniors. The fellowship will provide practical training in web development as well as a unique exposure to a range of applications and organizations using technology to tackle a variety of global challenges — from creating prosthetic limbs with a 3D printer to combating malaria with mobile devices.
As a fellow you will spend three months designing and implementing a web development project related to education, technology, and social good. TechChange staff will provide training, mentorship, and a series of events to support you in this process.

The fellowship also includes:

• Training in Javascript, Node.js, PHP, React, Flux, Backbone.js, database management, and more
• One-on-one mentorship with TechChange staff
• Field trips to organizations working in technology and social change
• An event series on a range of topics related to technology and social change
• A $2,000 monthly stipend for 3 months
• A round-trip plane ticket to DC from a location within the US
• Support with job placement at the conclusion of the fellowship

Who we think will be a great fit:

The Asia Foundation is accepting applications for its Lankacorps fellowships 2016 in order to foster the involvement and understanding of young members of the expatriate Sri Lankan community who have limited in-depth experience with the country of their heritage.

LankaCorps is a unique opportunity for young leaders of Sri Lankan heritage to professionally engage in social, cultural, and economic development activities in Sri Lanka. Asia Foundation staff will offer in-country advisory and logistical support for the Fellows during their six-month affiliation.

Purpose

The Foundation has created LankaCorps:

• To help members of the expatriate Sri Lankan community engage with post-conflict Sri Lanka;

Coady Institute’s Global Change Leaders Program 2016 for Emerging Women Leaders in Developing Countries

Coady Institute’s International Centre for Women’s Leadership is currently inviting applications for the Global Change Leaders Program 2016. It is a seven-week education program offered by Coady Institute’s International Centre for Women’s Leadership.

This program enables women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their organizations and communities.

Program Schedule

For 2016, the Global Change Leaders Program consists of two main components:

• October 11, 2016 – April 30, 2017:  Participants will benefit from one-on-one mentoring from experienced women leaders upon their return home for up to six months to follow on the application of learning into practice.

Eligibility Criteria

This program is targeted to emerging women leaders from developing countries who are working on development issues. These are women who:

• Possess a minimum of four years of demonstrated leadership experience in a social or economic development endeavor in sectors such as livelihoods or inclusive economic development, food security,environment, access to education and health care, governance, political engagement of women and the rights of girls and women.
• Have great drive and passion for their work, demonstrated through their outstanding contributions in their organizations and communities.
• Are practitioners in civil society organizations including community based organizations and not for profits, or active in public or private institutions, donor/philanthropic agencies, social movements or in a social enterprise/business.
• Hold a university degree or a combination of post-secondary education and experience.

Dorothy Marchus Senesh Fellowship for Women from Developing Countries

The International Peace Research Association Foundation inviting Women from developing countries for the Dorothy Marchus Senesh Fellowship in Peace and Development Studies.

The IPRA Foundation was founded in 1990 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote peace research and scholarship throughout the world.Dorothy Senesh was a long-time activist for international peace and justice. Her husband Lawrence established this fellowship following her death in 1989. The first award was made at the IPRA 25th Anniversary meeting, July 1990, in Groningen,Netherlands and has been made biennially ever since.

 

Award Information

Every other year (beginning in 1990) two women receive school expenses in the amount of $5,000 per year for two years.

 

Eligibility Criteria

• The Dorothy Senesh Fellowship is available to women from developing countries
  • who have completed a Bachelor’s degree,
  • who have been accepted into a graduate program and
  • Whose graduate work is to be focused on issues related to the goals of IPRA.
• Funds will only be dispersed when the selected candidate is admitted into a graduate program. Awards are considered based on need; therefore students with substantial funding sources are less likely to be considered for the award.

The TechChange is currently inviting applications from recent graduates and rising college seniors based outside of the Unites States (also non-US citizens based in US with student visas or other legal working status) for its Summer Fellowship program 2016.
The fellows will get an opportunity to participate in practical training in web development along with a unique exposure to a range of applications and organizations using technology to tackle a variety of global challenges — from creating prosthetic limbs with a 3D printer to combating malaria with mobile devices.
What fellowship covers?

• A $2,000 monthly stipend for 3 months.

The Intrapreneur Development Experience (IDEX) fellowship aims to create the next wave of “social intrapreneurs” who will support, lead and advance the work of socially-focused enterprises around the world. Become a World Social Science Fellow and Participate in Big Data in an Urban Context Seminar

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) is calling applicants from outstanding early career social scientists around the world to become World Social Science Fellows and participate in a seminar on Big Data in an Urban Context from 30 November 2015 to 4 December 2015 in China.

The ISSC is an international organisation that aims to advance the practice and use of the social and behavioral sciences in all parts of the world, and to ensure their global representation.

The seminar is designed to improve the quality, reliability, management and accessibility of data of importance to all fields of science and technology.

Benefits

Think Tank LINKS Fellowship

CIPE and Atlas Corps have jointly launched the new Think Tank LINKS (Leaders, Innovators, and Knowledge Sharing) Fellowship. This innovative, all-expenses paid program is an opportunity for talented young professionals from developing countries with strong research backgrounds to shadow leading U.S. think tanks for six months. In addition, Fellows will be enrolled in a professional development training program and join a growing network of nonprofit leaders from around the world.

Location:

Fellows will be based at leading think tanks in Washington, DC area for six months (January through July). They will serve 40 hours per week at their host think tanks, focused on a mutually agreed-upon research topic that relates to democratic and/or economic reforms. Fellows are expected to publish their research during the program through articles, blogs, and presentations.

Logistics:

CIPE and Atlas Corps will provide Fellows with logistical support regarding visa, health insurance, stipend, and international travel. Fellows will also receive a monthly living stipend that covers basic housing, food, and transportation for one person.

If selected as a Fellow, you are responsible for the following pre-departure logistics.

Visa Expenses:

Selected candidates are expected to pay for their travel to the U.S. Embassy and pay the initial visa expenses. If the visa is approved, CIPE and Atlas Corps will reimburse your visa fees, but not the travel to the Embassy.

Participation Fee:

Fellows are required to contribute a $250 participation fee. If a Fellow ends the program in good standing, they will receive a $500 end of service award. The end of service award is given for successfully fulfilling the responsibilities and expectations of being a Think Tank LINKS Fellow. There is no cost to apply to be a Fellow. The $250 participation fee will only be collected from applicants who are matched with an organization and accepted as a Think Tank LINKS Fellow.

Deadline:

Applications are due August 15. Fellows will be selected by October. The program begins in January and completes in July. Space is limited, apply early!

Eligibility:

CIPE and Atlas Corps are looking for qualified candidates who have:

• Demonstrated research background relating to issues of democracy and/or economic reform.
• Bachelors degree or higher, preferably in Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field .
• At least two (2) years of professional experiences with proven record of research-based work.
• Proficiency in English (both in writing and speaking).
• Age 35 or younger.
• Currently working for a think tank, policy research institution, or a similar organization.

After the initial screening by CIPE and Atlas Corps, top applicants will be interviewed and selected by the respective Host Organization's staff. Preference will be given to non-OECD applicants.

Responsibilities of Think Tank LINKS Fellows:

• Conduct research on a topic that relates to democratic or economic reforms.
• Produce research results that meet the thematic and quality criteria set by CIPE, Atlas Corps, and the host think tank.
• Contribute to CIPE's Development Blog (www.cipe.org/blog) to highlight key findings.
• Participate in Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab training sessions.
• Attend orientation, roundtable discussions, and other activities as required by CIPE, Atlas Corps, and the host think tank.
• If selected, pay a USD $250 participation fee, which will be returned upon successful completion of the fellowship.
• Return to home country after the Fellowship.

AVAC Fellowship Program for HIV Prevention Research Advocacy 2016

AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (AVAC) is inviting applications for HIV Prevention Research Advocacy Fellowship Program 2016 from the regions mentioned below. The goal of this program is to expand and strengthen the capacity of civil society advocates and organizations to monitor, support and help shape bio-medical HIV prevention research and rapid roll out of new effective interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Fellows receive training, financial support, and technical assistance to plan and implement a targeted one-year project within host organizations focused on HIV/AIDS.

Program Benefits

The fellow program provides:

• Mentoring and capacity building in bio-medical HIV prevention research and implementation advocacy from AVAC for both advocacy fellows and host organizations.
• Connection to global network of HIV prevention advocates including: current and former advocacy fellows, researchers, civil society leaders, and other individuals and/or organizations working in similar fields.
• Opportunity for networking and information sharing with other advocacy fellows and a boarder community of advocates including: activists, scientists, clinical train staff and other stakeholders working in fields related to HIV prevention research and implementation.
• A small stipend and technical assistance to the selected advocacy fellow for the initial development of a detailed work plan(up to three days over a maximum of two months)
• Financial support and technical assistance from AVAC for project implementation over 12 months. This includes support for full-time commitment on a Fellows project, a modest budget for project execution and access to a discretionary fund for specific travel, infrastructure or and information technology (IT) needs.

Africa, Central and Latin America and most of Asia.

• Those living with HIV are encouraged to apply.
• Individuals with some experience or education in the areas of HIV and AIDS, public health, medicine, international development, women rights, communication or advocacy with key populations such as sex workers, LGBT and drug users are also eligible.
• Those based in low and middle income countries with HIV burdens and where bio-medical HIV prevention clinical research is planned or ongoing and/or where there is current work on implementation of new prevention strategies can also apply.
• Participants must be able to collaborate with English-speaking mentors.
• Exclusions:
  • Founders or leaders of proposed host organisations.
  • Students who intend to use the Fellow’s project to support work toward a thesis, dissertation or academic degree.
  • Seasoned HIV prevention research advocates who have been leading campaigns or related projects for five years or more. (We’d like to work with you but a Fellowship is not the vehicle for this).
  • Individuals who plan to work on the Advocacy Fellow’s project along with another job or add consultancies to their Fellowship work.
  • Applicants based in countries outside the global South (e.g., Western Europe and North America).
  • Applicants who are researchers or senior staff members (e.g., leaders of AIDS service or community organisations) will only be considered under special circumstances.
