Applications are invited for the Advocacy Fellows Program! The Program is designed to support emerging and midcareer advocates based in low & middle income countries to design and implement advocacy projects focused on biomedicalHIV prevention research and implementation in their countries and communities.
The program will run for one year, from March 2016 to February 2017.
The goal of the program is to expand and strengthen the capacity of civil society advocates and organisations to monitor, support and help shape biomedical HIV prevention research and rapid rollout of new effective interventions in low- and middle-income countries with higher HIV burdens.
Focus Activities
- Incorporating research advocates’ and other stakeholder perspectives to shape and improve the research agenda and process;
- Participating in the setting of the research, programmatic and funding agendas at local, national and international levels;
- Bringing under-represented voices of individuals and communities most at risk of HIV to the forefront of discussions and debates;
- Raising critical issues around access, acceptability and rollout of new prevention technologies;
- Targeting global funding or policies and/or national guidelines, policies or laws to ensure they respect people’s rights, including the most highly HIV-burdened but underserved, and are responsive to their needs and reflective of new evidence around prevention;
- Accelerate the process of moving from a positive research finding to eventual implementation of and access to a new prevention intervention.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants can be:
- Emerging or mid-career community leaders and advocates involved or interested in advocacy around HIV prevention research and implementation,
- Individuals with some experience or education in the areas of HIV and AIDS, public health, medicine, international development, women’s rights, communications, or advocacy with key populations, such as sex workers, LGBT people and drug users.
- Based in low- and middle-income countries with high HIV burdens and where biomedical HIV prevention clinical research is planned or ongoing and/or where there is current work on implementation of new preventions strategies.
