MasterCard Foundation’s 2016 Clients at the Centre Prize: A Chance to Win up to US$150,000!

The MasterCard Foundation is currently inviting applicants for its 2016 Clients at the Centre Prize, with an aim to provide a platform where they can demonstrate their client-centric practices and share their successes and experiences through practical, ‘real world’.

The 2016 Prize is looking for the world’s most impactful and sustainable financial service provider that puts “clients at the centre” of its thinking and operations for the benefit of poor people in developing countries.

Prize Information

The Prize consists of a US$150,000 award to expand or reinforce client-centric practices within the winning organisation.

Eligibility Criteria

The Prize is open to registered organisations operating anywhere in the world that provide financial products and services to low-income populations in developing countries. The following points further clarify eligibility:

• Eligible organisations must provide access to financial products and services, such as loans, savings, insurance, etc. The organisations could include: direct providers such as banks, microfinance institutions, and cooperatives, mobile network operators, as well as indirect providers such as leasing companies, agricultural input suppliers, and technology companies who offer innovative solutions to direct providers. In applications from this latter type of organisation, the partner(s) (i.e. a direct provider of financial services) must also be included in the application.
• Applicants must demonstrate a tangible impact on low-income populations that can be measured and reported.
• Applicants do not need to be registered or incorporated in one of the listed developing countries, but they must already operate and serve low-income populations in one of those countries. The application to the Prize must also describe how the organisation focuses its operations in these countries.
• Applications that target poor communities in developed countries are not eligible.
• Only organisations, not individuals, are eligible to apply for the Prize.
• Government ministries, departments or agencies are not eligible to apply for the

Apply for Children’s Prize 2016: A Chance to Win $250,000 USD!

The Children’s Prize Foundation is currently accepting applications from individuals, teams and organizations from around the globe to submit their proposals to reduce child mortality to save lives. The Prize promote connections between donors and recipients, encouraging modern networking technology while trying to add a new technique to the landscape of global philanthropy.

Projects are evaluated on their:

• ability to impact rates within a child mortality indicator (U5MR, IMR, NMR, etc.)

Nominations Open for UNESCO 2016 Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development

The UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development honours outstanding projects by individuals, institutions and organizations related to ESD.

The prize, which is funded by the Government of Japan, consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each recipient. It was awarded for the first time by the DIrector-General of UNESCO in a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 5 November 2015 .

The three laureates of 2015 are: Asociación SERES from Guatemala/El Salvador; Jayagiri Centre from Indonesia; and rootAbility from Germany. They were selected for outstanding projects inspiring and empowering youth to take action to create more sustainable lifestyles through individual and collective activities and commitment.

The Prize and award winners recognize the role of education in connecting the social, economic, cultural and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The Global Action Programme on ESD (GAP) calls for scaling up of ESD action at all levels as a means of implementing all the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Prize was established by the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 195th session within the framework of the GAP on Education for Sustainable Development and officially announced at the UNESCO World Conference on ESD (10-12 November 2014, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan).

• To reorient education and learning so that everyone has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to contribute to sustainable development
• To strengthen education and learning in all agendas, programmes and activities that promote sustainable development

Selection Criteria

The project/programme of the nominee are assessed by the Jury on the basis of the following criteria:

• Transformation: The project/programme practices Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as transformative education in support of sustainable development.
• Integration: The project/programme addresses the three dimensions of sustainable development (society, economy, environment) in an integrated way.
• Innovation: The project/programme demonstrates an innovative approach to ESD.

Eligibility Criteria

• Nominations can be submitted to the Director-General of UNESCO by Governments of Member States via their Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, and by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO.
• Each Permanent Delegation or NGO can make up to three nominations for any edition of the Prize
• Nominations must be submitted in English or French and need to focus on a specific ESD project or programme of the candidate.
• Nominations will be assessed by an independent jury of five international experts on the basis of their potential for transformation, integration and innovation.
• Projects must already be running for at least two years, show evidence of a high impact, be easily replicable and scalable and contribute to one or more of the five Priority Action Areas of the GAP.
• Self-nominations are not accepted.

The NCCA-National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) Executive Council is seeking nominations for the 2016 Young Historian’s Prize. Now on its fifth year, the award is in recognition of the potential of young scholars on the basis of a single work in the field of history.

Winners will receive a certificate of recognition and a cash prize of Php 62,500.00 (Sixty Two-Thousand Five Hundred Pesos Only)

 

Guidelines and Procedures for the Young Historian’s Prize

(Approved and Amended during the NCHR in its meeting on June 17, 2015)

Qualifications for the Nominees

1. Filipino citizen between 21-40 years old at the time of nomination.
2. Executive Council (ExeCon) Members of the National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) and employees of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) are disqualified from submitting entries for the Prize.

Minimum Qualifications for submissions/entries

1. An original work that contributes to the enrichment of Philippine history and historiography[e.g. journal, article, unpublished manuscript, including thesis and dissertation but should be presented as book manuscript]
2. Single authorship
3. Demonstrates use of primary sources
4. Written in proper academic style
5. Published or completed work within the last three years

Guidelines for Selection of Jury Members and the Winners of the Young Historian’s Prize

1. Selection of shortlisted entries/submissions will be handled by the National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) Executive Council (ExeCon) Members.   Three members from the ExeCon will pre-select the shortlisted candidates.

2. The manuscripts of the shortlisted entries will then be evaluated by a three-member Panel of Jurors that will also act as external reviewers.

The members of the Panel of Jurors will be selected or endorsed by the ExeCon; the members of the Panel of Jurors should be from the academe and/or have a vast experience and knowledge in Philippine history and historiography or the social sciences.

3. The Panel of Jurors will conduct a double-blind review of the manuscripts and will be given five months to evaluate the submissions depending on the number of entries for review.

4. The Panel of jurors will attend a deliberation meeting to discuss their evaluation of the entries.

5. The panel may choose either to award the prize to one, two or three winners or not to name a winner depending on the result of their evaluation.

6. After the deliberation meeting, the panel signs a certificate with the name of the winner/s or a certificate explaining their reason for not awarding the prize to any of the submitted entries. The panel is then informed of the names of the participants.

7. The result of the deliberation meeting will be presented to the NCHR ExeCon during a regular meeting for confirmation and approval.

8. Letters will be sent out to the participants informing them of the result of the deliberation of the Panel of Jurors.

9. An awarding ceremony will be scheduled during a regular meeting of the NCHR ExeCon or on a fitting ceremony approved by the committee. The winner/s will also receive a net amount of PhP50,000.00 each as cash incentive.

Nominations Open for the International UNESCO/José Martí Prize 2016

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is inviting  Members States in consultation with their National Commissions, and non-governmental organizations in official partnership with UNESCO and active in a field covered by the Prize to submit nominations for the International UNESCO/José Martí Prize, which will be awarded for the seventh time in 2016.

The purpose of the International UNESCO/José Martí Prize is to promote and reward an activity of outstanding merit in any region of the world that contributes to the unity and the integration of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and to the preservation of their identities, cultural traditions and historical values. This is in accordance with the ideals and spirit of José Martí and embodies a nation’s aspiration to sovereignty and liberty.

Award Information

• The Prize (and all expenses related thereto) shall be funded by the Government of Cuba (the Donor), and shall consist of a sum of a recurrent payment of a minimum of US $15,000.
• The prizewinner shall receive a monetary award.

• Candidates shall have made a significant contribution, in any region of the world, to the unity and the integration of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and to the preservation of their identities, cultural traditions and historical values.

French Republic’s 2015 “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize

The French Republic’s 2015 “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize, awarded by the Prime Minister of the French Government has issued a call for applications.
Themes

1. The dangers of Internet for human rights – The Internet is seen as a haven for individual freedom of speech of individuals as well as of collective mobilization and campaigning, free of any established order or hierarchy. But it is also an ideal space for surveillance, where each and every little thing we do, each of our wishes and opinions, can be observed by governments and private companies unbeknownst to us
2. The environment and human rights – Linking human rights and environment is a central issue in the contemporary world. Many international organisations have worked to promote this aim. Their primary objective is not merely to protect human rights but rather to restore and justify the link between human rights and the environment.

Prize contains – Five laureates which will share the overall prize of €70,000 allotted by the Prime Minister. A “special mention” will be conferred on the five runners-up.
Eligibility Information – Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), regardless of nationality and borders, are eligible to apply for the prize.
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), regardless of nationality and borders, should present an action carried out in the field or an implemented project, in France or abroad, on one of the two themes for 2015, namely “The dangers of Internet for human rights” and “The environment and human rights”.

The Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement 2015

The John and Alice Tyler Prize is awarded for environmental science, health and energy conferring great benefit upon humanity. The Prize is endowed by gifts from the John and Alice Tyler Charitable Trusts and awardees are chosen annually by the Executive Committee. The University of Southern California administers the Tyler Prize.

Selection Criteria

Prizes are awarded for any one of the following:

• The protection, maintenance, improvement or understanding of an ecological or an environmental condition anywhere in the world.
• The discovery, further development, improvement, or understanding of known or new sources of energy.
• Medical discoveries or achievements with such worldwide implications that they significantly benefit environmental aspects of human health.

Eligibility

Living individuals or public or private institutions of any nation are eligible for nomination.

Who May Nominate

Persons or institutions eligible to make nominations include, but are not limited to: any individuals or entity in fields such as biology, oceanography, geology, medicine, public health, chemistry, physics, engineering and social sciences.

Self nominations are not accepted.

REVISED Nomination Procedures

Initial nominations:

Nominations must be submitted in the English language and include the following information as requested on the Nomination Form (PDF) and emailed to: tylerprz@usc.edu.

Full names, addresses etc. of Nominee (individual or institution) and Nominator.

A one to two-page summary of the individual's or institution’s accomplishments, discovery, improvement, or other contribution for which the award is proposed, including links to appropriate websites.

A list of three to five individuals who would be ready to provide reference letters if the nomination is advanced to the short-list.

In the case of a nomination for an individual a Curriculum Vitae should be attached with links to appropriate publications, reports and websites featuring the unique contribution(s) for which the nomination is being made.

All initial nominations will be reviewed by the Executive Committee and select a short-list of nominees for whom additional information will be required. All nominators will be notified October 9th as to whether or not their nominee has advanced to the short list.

The Ockenden International Prizes of $150,000 for Projects Helping Refugees and Internally Displaced People

The Ockenden International invites internationally operating organizations registered as charities to submit their own project or a project by a registered partner or affiliate organization for the Ockenden International Prize 2015. The project must be helping refugees and/or internally displaced people. The primary objective of the prizes include highlighting the challenges faced by displaced people, raising awareness of their range of needs, and providing reward and recognition for those giving outstanding support.

The finalists will be announced in November 2014.

2. Runner-ups (2) – $25,000 each

The three contenders for the 2015 International Prize will make final presentations to a specialist panel of five judges on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, United Kingdom. The winners will be presented the prizes at the ceremony.
