What are we looking for?

We are looking for pioneering enterprises and programmes demonstrating achievement in any of the following areas:

• Increasing energy access for homes or businesses: Increasing energy access to those that have limited or no access by providing renewable energy products or services.
• Sustainable buildings: Improving energy use in urban buildings, including residential, commercial and public buildings.
• Developing innovative financial mechanisms or business models for delivering sustainable energy: Organisations providing innovative financial mechanisms or using innovative business to expand access to sustainable energy products or services.
• Sustainable travel: Innovative enterprises or programmes that are improving access to sustainable travel, encouraging the use of more sustainable modes of travel or using technology to enable more efficient fuel use.
• Improving the lives of women and girls through sustainable energy:Enterprises or programmes that are providing sustainable energy to women and girls as beneficiaries and creating employment or income-generating activities, or involving them in the supply chain. We are also interested in work benefiting refugees and internally displaced women and girls.
• Sustainable energy and water: Enterprises or programmes using sustainable energy technologies to deliver increased access to safe and affordable drinking water; or water for agricultural production; or adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene.
• Powering business: Enterprises or programmes which provide or use clean energy or energy efficiency in the provision of goods and services through business activities, for example in the agricultural, commercial and industrial sectors.

Clara Lionel Foundation: Applications Open for Global Scholarship Program

Eligibility

Applicants to the Clara Lionel Foundation Global Scholarship Program must be:

• a citizen or native of Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, or Jamaica.
  *Applicants must have been born in one of these countries.  If selected as a finalist, you will need to provide a copy of your birth certificate. 
• eligible to study in the United States and been accepted to an accredited four-year college or university located in the United States.
*As part of your application, you will need to upload a copy of your acceptance letter.  
• a first time college student (with fewer than 12 college credits unless those credits were earned in high school) planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2016-2017 academic year.

No employee or consultant of the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) or Roc Nation, LLC, or any family member of such employee or consultant, is eligible to apply.  No officer or director of the CLF, member of the Selection Committee, employee, consultant or family member of any officer, director, or member of the Selection Committee, is eligible to apply.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 USD.  Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) each semester.

Awards are for undergraduate study only and may be used only for tuition expenses.

Required Documents

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents to Scholarship Management Services by June 10, 2016:

1. A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
2. A completed Applicant Appraisal Form (click to view and print the form).
3. A copy of the acceptance letter from the accredited four-year college or university you will be attending in the United States.

Program Deadline

Your application must be submitted by June 10, 2016 by 1:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time. 

Selection of Finalists

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any officer or employee of Clara Lionel Foundation play a part in the selection of finalists.  Once finalists are selected, a selection committee at Clara Lionel Foundation will determine recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

No employee or consultant of the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) or Roc Nation, LLC, or any family member of such employee or consultant, is eligible to apply.  No officer or director of the CLF, member of the Selection Committee, employee, consultant or family member of any officer, director, or member of the Selection Committee, is eligible to apply. 

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists or recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship Management Services processes scholarship payments on behalf of Clara Lionel Foundation. Payment is made on September 1 in United States currency and mailed directly to the recipient's educational institution in the United States.  Recipients must be eligible to receive funding per the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Obligations

Recipients have no obligation to Clara Lionel Foundation. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information, and to send a complete official transcript when requested.

Clara Lionel Foundation reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.

The Crawford Fund Derek Tribe Award: Open to Citizens of Developing Countries

The Crawford Fund Derek Tribe Award is made biennially to a citizen of a developing country in recognition of their distinguished contributions to the application of research in agriculture or natural resource management in a developing country or countries.

The Crawford Fund Derek Tribe Award was inaugurated in 2001 to mark the outstanding contributions of Emeritus Professor Derek Tribe AO OBE FTSE, Foundation Director of the Crawford Fund, to the promotion of international agricultural research.

The Crawford Fund encourages greater recognition of international agricultural research and development in agriculture, fisheries, forestry and natural resource management by Australians, and increased support by Australian governmental and non-governmental organizations for this research.

Graham Foundation - CARTER MANNY AWARD

The Graham Foundation announces a new application deadline for the Carter Manny Award, the foundation’s annual award for doctoral students working on dissertation topics in architecture. The annual application deadline is now November 15.Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in early spring of each year.

The recipients of the 2015 Carter Manny Award will be announced on October 6, 2015.

AWARD DESCRIPTION

Since the Carter Manny Award’s establishment in 1996, over $672,000 has been awarded in recognition of outstanding doctoral students whose work represents some of the most innovative and advanced scholarship on architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. The Carter Manny Award supports dissertation research and writing by promising scholars whose projects have architecture as their primary focus and have the potential to shape contemporary discourse in the field of architecture. Projects may be drawn from the various fields of inquiry supported by the Graham Foundation: architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; visual arts; and other related fields. The award assists students enrolled in graduate programs in architecture, art history, the fine arts, humanities, and the social sciences working on architecture topics.

The Graham Foundation offers two Carter Manny Awards: a research award for a student at the research stage of the doctoral dissertation and a writing award for a student at the writing stage of the doctoral dissertation. The research award is acknowledged with up to $15,000 and the writing award is acknowledged with up to $20,000.

The Carter Manny Award applications are reviewed by a diverse panel of recognized scholars in the fields of inquiry represented by the award. Anna Goodman (University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design, Department of Architecture) is the 2014  winner of the writing award her dissertation Citizen Architects: Ethics, Education, and the Construction of a Profession, 1933-2013. Steven Lauritano (Yale University, Department of the History of Art) is the 2014 recipient of the research award for his dissertation Embedded Remnants in Modern Architecture: Karl Friedrich Schinkel and the Historiography of Remains. The Foundation offers this prestigious annual award in honor of Carter H. Manny and his long and distinguished service to the Graham Foundation. Manny has served the foundation since its inception in 1956, first as a Trustee, then as the Director from 1971, and since his retirement in 1993, as Director Emeritus.

Eligibility

Ph.D. students who are presently candidates for a doctoral degree are eligible to apply.

• Students must be nominated by their department to apply for the Carter Manny Award.
• A department may nominate up to two candidates: one for the research award and one for the writing award.
• At the time of application, students must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation and have had their dissertation proposals formally approved by their academic departments.
• A student may reapply for the Carter Manny Award if a previous application was not successful. Due to limited funds, a student who received a research award or a writing award is not eligible to apply for another Carter Manny Award in subsequent years.
• The award is open to students officially enrolled in schools in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of citizenship.

Work being undertaken in pursuit of an academic degree is not otherwise eligible for Graham Foundation support.

The Future Awards Africa 2015

The awards celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. Forbes has described the awards as “Most important awards for outstanding young Nigerians”. The awards, organized by young Nigerians below the age of 30, was conceived by Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams in 2004. Commonwealth Youth Awards Nominations

Nominations are open for the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work. These awards recognise inspiring young people whose development work has had a significant impact on people and communities in their country or region.

We are looking for young people aged 15 to 29 years, whose development work demonstrates the Commonwealth’s Plan of Action for Youth Empowerment, to:

• Promote youth participation in decision making
• Promote economic empowerment of young people
• Take action for equality between young women and young men
• Promote peaceful and democratic environment in which human rights flourish
• Provide quality education for all
• Improve access to information and communication technology
• Promote health, development and values through sport and culture
• Engage young people to protect the environment.

Criteria for nomination

Individuals are able to nominate themselves or can be nominated by someone who is able to vouch for the legitimacy of the nominee’s development work. The nominee must meet the following criteria:

• The nominee must have been engaged in their development work for more than 12 months either in a professional or voluntary capacity
• The nominee must be from a Commonwealth member country
• The development work must be ongoing and in a Commonwealth member country
• The nominee should not be older than 29 on 31 December 2016
• Nominees should give permission for their names to be put forward (if nominated by someone else).
• Award winners and finalists must agree to take part in publicity and activities generated by the Commonwealth.
• The development work can be within any number of areas, including agriculture, skills training, arts and culture, environment protection, education, health and well-being, human rights, information and communications technology, journalism and many more areas including sport, science and sustainability.

Nomination Process

Applications open 6 July 2015 and close 31 August 2015. Complete the online nomination form to submit a nomination.

You will be required to provide:

• Details about the person you are nominating (if nominating someone)
• The reasons you think the nominee (or you, if you are nominating yourself) deserves to win

Frequently Asked Questions

Who funds the awards?
The Commonwealth Youth Award for Excellence in Development Work is funded by the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

How many awards are given each year?
Four finalists from each region are selected (16 overall). From these finalists, one from each region will be chosen to receive a Regional Commonwealth Award. An overall Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2016 will be decided from among the four regional award winners.

What will the winners receive?
Grants are awarded to advance the development work of finalists.

The sixteen regional finalists will receive a £1,000 grant, a trophy and a certificate. The four regional winners will receive an additional £2,000, a trophy, and a certificate. The overall Commonwealth award winner, or Commonwealth Young Person of the Year, will receive £5,000 in total, a trophy and a certificate. The 16 finalists will be invited to receive their awards at an official ceremony in London.

Who is eligible to be nominated for the award?
Nominees must be aged between 15 and 29 years (as of 31 December 2016), and come from a Commonwealth member country.

How will I know if my nomination has been received?
We will respond to each nomination received with a confirmation email.

How will award winners be notified?
Award winners will be contacted directly. We will aim to inform all nominees of the status of their applications.

What if I do not know the contact details of the person I am nominating?
Please make every effort to provide as much contact information as possible. We require at least an email address and telephone number so we may contact your nominee, especially if they are shortlisted for an award.

2016 GSK IMPACT Awards to Improve People’s Health

The GlaxoSmithKline in partnership with the King’s Fund is calling applications for the 2016 GSK IMPACT Awards. The GSK IMPACT Awards recognise and reward small to medium sized charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health.

GSK IMPACT Awards Includes –

• Up to ten winners will receive £30,000, with one overall winner receiving £40,000
• Up to ten runners-up will receive £3,000
• The awards are designed to recognise success and achievements for existing work so applicants don’t have to present a new project
• Each winning organisation is offered free leadership training and invited to take part in a programme of free development activities

The training programme and Development Network, valued at up to £6,000 for each organisation, is funded by GSK and hosted by The King’s Fund. GSK IMPACT Award winners will be presented with their awards at a high profile ceremony at the Science Museum in London in May 2016.

• A registered charity by the deadline for applications. The organisation must also have existed for a minimum of three years by this date. We may ask for a copy of your constitution to confirm this.
• Located and registered in the UK.
• Targeting community health needs in the UK. Community can be defined as a geographical community or a community of interest.
• Able to point to a track record of achievement in community health issues.
• Small or medium sized organisations with total annual income between £25,000 and £2 million as shown in your most recent accounts (produced within ten months of your year end).
• Independently constituted from any national umbrella organisation. Organisations registered in the UK but working in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland can apply.

How to Apply?

1. Study these guidelines to check that your organisation is eligible to apply for a GSK IMPACT Award and can meet the IMPACT criteria.

2. Complete the online application form available from The King’s Fund’s website (see below)

• In the application form you will be asked to nominate two referees to support your application. The referees will only be contacted if you are shortlisted and they will be asked to complete a two page reference form (the reference form questions can be downloaded from The King’s Fund website). Referees should be independent and should not be a volunteer, current Management Committee member/ Trustee, a family member or in receipt of a grant from your organisation. You can nominate a user of the services provided by your organisation to be one of your referees if you wish. The standing of referees, as well as the amount of detail within their references will be taken into account in the judging.

• Your application cannot be considered unless you also send us your most recent annual report and accounts (this is a different document to your Annual Review which we do not need to see). You can either attach your accounts electronically to the application form, post them, or charities registered in England and Wales can confirm that their most recent accounts are available online at the Charity Commission. International ReSource Award of US$150,000 for Sustainable Watershed Management 2015

The International ReSource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management is an internationally recognised prize acknowledging leadership in the implementation of the principles of sustainability in watershed management. Every year US$150,000 is awarded across several project being implemented in non-OECD countries.
The award is an initiative of the Swiss Re Foundation committed to support water protection projects for sustainable access to clean water supplies in developing and emerging countries. Recent winning projects have supported communities in such diverse locations as Afghanistan, the Solomon Islands, China andGuatemala. Projects must be implemented in a non-OECD countries only.
Focus Countries: non-OECD countries
Award
Prize money totalling US$150,000 will be allocated either in total to one project, or distributed across several projects.
Project Types
The project must

• Contribute to raising awareness of the ecological, social and economic significance of water sources and watersheds in developing and emerging countries.
• Preference will be given to those projects which demonstrate innovative approaches to effective adaptation to the expected regional consequences of climate change harming the watershed and allow scaling up on a self-sustaining basis.
• Such projects should be based on transferable concepts and thus enable sustained efforts to be made to protect the quality and availability of (drinking) water in other locations.
• The project must commence no later than 2015.

Criteria of the ReSource Award 2015
The submitted projects will be assessed along the following areas:

1. Impact: What is the expected impact of the project in the ecological, economic and social dimension?
2. Innovation: What innovative approaches are planned that allow effective adaptation to the expected regional consequences of climate change harming the watershed?
3. Local involvement: To what extent are the local community and regional institutions involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the project?
4. Feasibility and governance: feasibility of the project’s implementation and the governance structures which will be in place.
5. Financial structure: detailed breakdown of the financial structure of the project, including donations, in-kind contributions, and long-term economic viability.

Eligibility Criteria

• NGOs, private, scientific or public institutions and similar bodies are invited to participate in the tender for the International ReSource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management.
• Projects comprising more than one institution (e.g. public-private partnerships) are also eligible for the award.
• Bodies with strong links to the local communities of regions where water sources are located are particularly encouraged to participate.
• Participants cannot submit more than one project each year.
• Applicant must have a proven track record in sustainability and project planning and/or management in the specific field of water and source management.
• The prize is not for building-up or strengthening the organizations that are submitting an application.

• Selected ones will then be invited to submit a full proposal (extended application form online).

DAE RESEARCH AWARD FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) on the recommendations of the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) has instituted a Scheme to Grant financial assistance to Young Scientists in their initial years of settling down in a career of Research and Development. The assistance in the form of a Research Award is given to exceptionally bright young scientists below the age of 35 years.
The Award carries a maximum research grant of Rs. 17.00 lakhs in a block of three years and can be utilised for expenditure on JRF Salary, equipment, consumables, travel and other contingencies in connection with his/her research activities.
Scientists/Engineers working in universities, academic/ research institutions of higher learning and having a regular position are ONLY eligible to apply for this Award.
Those working in the laboratories and institutions fully supported by government departments like DAE, DST, CSIR, ICMR and ICAR need not apply for this award. Scientists and engineers working in R&D organisations of Private Industry or fully supported by Private Industry also need not apply. Also, those who have already received earlier or are currently in receipt of any research grant from any funding agency are not eligible for the Award.
