SEARCA Graduate Scholarship for Southeast Asians- Study Agriculture & Related Sciences

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) invites applications for its graduate scholarship (MS and PhD) in agriculture and related fields for Academic Year 2016-2017. Applicants are encouraged to complete the SEARCA scholarship application form and send along with other required documents to the Ministries of Education/Higher Education of their respective countries. The ministries have their own deadline, the deadline for ministries to endorse applications to SEARCA is 30 September 2015.
The graduate scholars’ thesis/dissertation topics must fall within any of the following ISARD priority themes and focus areas:
  • Social Inclusion
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Sub-regional cooperation in trade and investments
Focus Countries
Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore,Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam
Priority Themes & Focus Areas
  1. Social Inclusion
  2. Strengthening of Value Chains and Agribusiness Commodity Systems
  3. Integration of small-scale farmers into commercial food systems
  4. Food and Nutrition Security
  5. Productivity-enhancing innovations and modern technologies
  6. Rural entrepreneurship toward off-farm and non-farm businesses
  7. Environmental Sustainability
  8. Climate change adaptation and resiliency
  9. Natural Resource Management
  10. Cross-cutting Concerns
  11. Sub-regional cooperation in trade and investments
  12. Regional Economic Integration (AFTA and AEC 2015)
Financial Support
The scholarship covers stipend, tuition, international and domestic travel allowances, thesis/dissertation support, book allowance, and health insurance.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must belong to one of the countries mentioned above.
  • Applicants must be regular employees of academic, research or government institutions.
  • Applicants can be maximum 35 years of age at the time of application.
  • Applicants field of study must be one of the following – agriculture, biological sciences, fishery, environmental science, statistics, forestry, and social sciences.
  • The applicant’s topic of research for thesis/dissertation must be in line with any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts.
  • Applicants must have sent applications for admission to three of the study posts listed above.
How to Apply
Applicants can submit their accomplished SEARCA Scholarship Application form together with other original application requirements to the Ministries of Education/Higher Education of their respective countries.
Each applicant is required to submit the following documents:
  1. SEARCA Scholarship Application Form (2 copies);
  2. Letter of admission/acceptance from SEARCA-accredited university is highly preferred.
  3. Official transcript of academic records of each degree completed (BS transcript for MS applicants and BS and MS transcripts for PhD applicants);
  4. Certification of employment;
  5. Brief description of the research the applicant plans to conduct for thesis/dissertation.
  6. Two copies of passport-size pictures of the applicant;
  7. Curriculum vitae;
  8. Certification from a medical doctor that the applicant is in good physical and mental health condition and is fit to undertake graduate studies;
  9. Official endorsement from the employer; and
  10. Results of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
