DFATD: Women’s Economic Empowerment in Egypt, Morocco and Jordan

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) is accepting proposals for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Egypt, Morocco and Jordan.

The call for proposal intends to support private sector economic growth by increasing women’s entrepreneurship and participation in the work force in Egypt.

Funding Information

DFATD will provide funding between C$3,000,000 and C$10,000,000.

Objectives

  • Increased women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth.
  • Increased productivity and job opportunities generated by women entrepreneurs.
  • Increased employment of women by businesses.
  • Reduced gender-specific barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and to women entering into and remaining in the work force.

Focus Areas

The projects should focus on:

  • increasing skills and access to financial and non-financial services,
  • improving the institutional environment,
  • assisting women in their ability to make and act upon decisions in order to benefit from economic growth.

DFATD Priorities

  • Contribute to economic prosperity with an emphasis on expanding and diversifying commercial relationships with emerging and high-growth markets.
  • Expand Canada’s engagement in the hemisphere and reinforce the Canada-U.S. relationship.
  • Increase Canada’s economic and political engagement in Asia.
  • Promote democracy and respect for human rights and contribute to effective global governance.
  • Implement Canada’s development agenda to reduce global poverty and provide humanitarian assistance.
  • Support international security and the safety of Canadians abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Canadian, international, multilateral and local organizations working in Egypt, Morocco and Jordan are eligible to apply for the grants in which:
    • Canadian organizations should be legally incorporated or otherwise constituted under the provincial, territorial or federal laws of Canada;
    • non-Canadian organizations should be legally incorporated or registered entities—companies, non-government organizations (NGOs) or international NGOs-with a license to work in the three above mentioned countries.
  • The organizations should have at least five years of organizational experience in managing and delivering initiatives related to international development.
